This week was busy! I was able to finally add the finishing touches to my hand, (watercolor brown in the crevices and sponged acrylic on the moss). It's still a little messy, and I will clean it up a bit before I submit pictures to college board.
I've also spent a lot of the week trying to brainstorm for new projects. I've been working on the same ones for so long that I feel like I need to get my hands on a new project. I'm not sure if I will go with the ideas, (specifically the body with things coming out of the back, because people are really hard to sculpt). I do really like the mirror idea, but right now I'm trying to think of ways to tie pieces together and make them cohesive. Next week I want to start something new.

THis week was spent trying to work on my lantern piece some more. I tried painting the rocks I had before different shades of grey (shown in the first picture), but not only did I not like how it was turning out, I realized that it would be easier to create a whole new rock wall entirely (second picture). The difficulty I'm having with this piece is that the lantern is plastic, meaning that I can't bake it, like what I did with my mushroom hand. This really puts a damper on working on the piece, because not only do I have to sculpt everything, but I also have to glue it all together later.
At home, I've been working on a heart piece. I haven't finished painting it, and some pieces broke off when I baked it, but I like how it's turning out. Next week, I want to think up some new ideas, I feel like I haven't planned enough. This week I was able to get my turtle out of the kiln. I was really worried about my glaze combinations and if the glass would spill over, but it actually turned out really good! I do have to go back and take some watercolor to fill in the spots where I missed glaze, but I'll be doing that next week. It's my first project where I'm really proud of how it turned out!
This week I also was able to finish and bake my mushroom hand. I was going to bake earlier in the week, but I was finally able to bake it on Friday. Unfortunately, a mushroom fell off, but I'll be able to glue it back on. Next week, I want to put the finishing touches on both of these projects and complete them. I also have my lantern piece that is extremely old and I'd like to finish. This week was spent glazing my turtle. I hope that the glass creates a cool effect on the turtle, I've never melted glass without a structure that will prevent it from overflowing. If I'm being honest, I'm really starting to get behind. My pieces just aren't working out lately and every time I test a new idea it takes me way longer than anticipated to make a product that I'm proud of. I'm going to try and make a piece out of sculpey while I'm at home this weekend to try and catch up. Wish me luck!
So, I've had a really hard time trying to come up with the motivation to do pieces this week. I'm starting to get pieces out of the bisque and glaze fires and I'm just starting to feel overwhelmed. I still like my concentration, and there are pieces that i'm really proud of, like the hand. As far as the hand goes, I had to wait until it came out of the glaze kiln to make the mushrooms, and I'm trying to cover up some glaze mistakes with moss. Next week I want to actually try and kick it into high gear, I hate the feeling of being behind.
This week I finished sculpting the turtle, which took me much longer than expected. I was also able to glaze my hand so that he would finally be closer to being finished. Once the hand is fired, I'll be able to make the mushrooms at the right size. Next week I want to work on my fishbowl project.
This week I worked on sculpting a turtle and the crystals that are on top of it. It took a bit to realize what was the best material to make the crystals out of, but in the end I just used clay like the rest of the turtle. Next week I want to finish up the turtle, as well as start to glaze my clay hand.
This week I worked on sculpting my hand. It was painful, and I had to restart multiple times, but I'm extremely happy with how it turned out! Next week I want to try and practice on the mushrooms that I will add to the hand, as well as maybe start on a new project if I have time.
